Graduation and Commencement Information

Note: Graduation Application deadline was Fri. Feb. 18, 2011.

Check-In

Check-in for graduates will begin at 6 p.m. in the auditorium of the Fine Arts building. Graduates will begin lining up in the Fine Arts auditorium at 6:30 p.m. for the processional. The processional into the main hall begins promptly at 7 p.m. All guests must be seated by 7 p.m. to allow the faculty and graduates to begin the processional.

Doors to the hall will close at 7 p.m. and stay closed during the processional. They will re-open once all graduates are seated.

Attire

All graduates MUST wear a black cap and gown in order to participate in the ceremony. Men must wear ties with their gowns. Women must wear slacks or dresses no longer than mid-calf under their gowns.

Ceremony

The ceremony will begin at 7pm and end at 9pm.  The graduates must stay until the program ends with the recessional.  Family and friends are asked to remain in their seats until the recessional is complete.

Each graduate will have his or her name called as they walk across the stage and shake hands with either the President of the College or the Chairperson of the College Board of Trustees.

Photos

A professional photographer will take pictures of each graduate as they walk across the stage and receive their diplomas or certifications.  You will be sent a free color proof and order forms in the mail a few weeks after the ceremony. Family and friends are asked to take pictures before and after the ceremony.

Videotaping

DVD will also be available for purchase through LSCC TV. Order Form.

Parking

Graduates and guests should park in the West parking lot by the Fine Arts Building and the Convocation Center.

Regalia – Caps & Gowns

Caps and gowns may be purchased from the Leesburg or South Lake campus bookstores beginning Friday April 1, 2011.  The cost of the cap, gown, and tassel is $36.00 plus tax. 

Honor Cords and Tassels

Honor cords and tassels will be distributed during check-in.  Honor cords and tassels will ONLY be given to those students that have completed ALL graduation requirements.  Students with outstanding transfer work, incomplete coursework, or walk only candidates will not be eligible for honors.

Any student that is a member of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) should contact Dr. Hicks for details on purchasing the PTK sash for commencement.

Announcements

Basic announcements are also available for purchase at the bookstores.  If you plan to purchase personalized announcements you can do so through The Herff Jones Company.  Their website is http://collegegrad.herffjones.com .  Please allow 3 to 4 weeks for delivery.

Tickets

Five (5) tickets will be issued to all graduates.  The tickets will need to be distributed to your guest to allow them entrance into the ceremony.  Tickets will be available for pick-up Friday April 8, 2011 thru Friday April 22, 2011.

Diplomas and Certificates

Approximately 6-10 weeks after commencement, all diplomas and certificates will be mailed to the address listed on the graduation application. Diplomas will not be issued if the graduate’s record has a hold. 

The Admissions and Records office will notify students of any outstanding financial obligations prior to commencement.  All financial obligations must be met in order to receive a diploma and official transcripts.

Honors

The college will confer honors recognition for students based on the following Scholastic Achievement:

Cum Laude:    3.40-3.59
Magna Cum Laude:    3.60-3.79
Summa Cum Laude:   3.80-4.00
