LSCC WINS ONE AND DROPS ONE OVER THE WEEKEND

The LSCC Lakers Baseball team lost to Indian River State College on Friday by a score of 8-2.  With the loss, the Lakers dropped to 6-10 overall on the year and the loss snapped a three game winning streak.  Dave Thomas received the loss but pitched well by going five innings, allowing six hits, three runs, and striking out two hitters.  Thomas’ overall record now is 1-3.  Offensively, the Lakers only managed seven hits from seven different players.  Jason Matusik had the only RBI for the Lakers.

On Sunday, the University of Tampa JV Spartans came to town to face the Lakers.  The Lakers led by a score of 4-1 after five innings of play but the Spartans scored two runs in the 6th inning and three more in the 7th inning to take a 6-5 lead.  The Lakers battled back in their own half of the 7th inning by scoring two runs to take the lead for good and win the game by the score of 7-6.  The winning pitcher was Eddie Bonilla.  He improves to 3-0 on the year.  Nick Wilson threw a scoreless ninth inning to notch his first save.  Chandler Jagodzinski also threw well in relief by going 2 2/3 innings, allowing two hits, no runs, and striking out one hitter.  Jagodzinski has yet to allow an earned run this spring in 15 1/3 innings.

Offensively, the Lakers were led by Cody Mombourquette (2-4, 2 RBIs), Matusik (1-3, RBI), and Stephen Bellantoni extended his hitting streak to 16 games with a single in the 5th inning.

The Lakers are back in action on Monday at home against Hillsborough CC.  First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. and Nic Kovacs will be the starting pitcher.
