Sumter Campus Library

Sumter Campus Joint-Use Library

The Sumter Campus, located in Sumterville, opened its doors in the summer of 1995. In 1996, a library was established in a closet in the only building on campus, and library services were available just a few hours each week.

To meet the needs of a growing campus, the Clark Maxwell, Jr. Library and Student Services Center was opened and dedicated in January 2000. Approximately one-third of the 16,000 square-foot building space is dedicated to library use. The remainder of the building provides classrooms, administrative office space and meeting rooms. The library was constructed for the purpose of serving as a joint-use facility for LSCC and the Sumter County Public Library System.

The library is a joint college-public library in which service to library users is provided equally for community college students and staff and for members of the local community, including, in the winter months, significant numbers of winter residents. Sumter campus library staff provide full library services, including reference and library instruction services for students, staff, and community members, learning lab support for students in the areas of math, English, and computer studies, instructional media support for staff and instructors, and inter-library loan services for all libraries in the Sumter County Library System.
