Credit Card Convenience Fee FAQs

What credit cards does TouchNet PayPath accept?

Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express will be accepted. If you need assistance paying with a credit card on LOIS, please contact Business Services at 352-435-6307 or come to the Cashier office on any campus.

Why is LSSC charging a fee for the use of credit cards?

Due to increasing operational challenges, a desire to provide a high level of security of personal information, and the increasing costs to process credit cards, LSSC has contracted with a third-party company, TouchNet PayPath, to provide credit card processing services for student transactions (tuition, fees, and other charges). The fee is being charged by the third-party processor, not LSSC. This will enable the college to continue to provide students with a credit card payment option.

Why is the convenience fee 2.75%? How was the percentage established?

2.75% (minimum fee $3.00) is the amount established by our third-party credit card processor, TouchNet PayPath, to cover the credit card transaction fees assessed by credit card companies.

Is LSSC unique in charging a convenience fee?

No. Many Florida colleges and universities currently charge a convenience fee for credit card transactions.

Is there any way I can avoid paying a convenience fee?

You can avoid paying the 2.75% convenience fee by paying on LOIS with an e-check (bank transfer from your checking or savings account). Payments by cash, check, or money order can be made in person at any campus Cashier Office, or checks and money orders can be mailed to Lake-Sumter State College, Business Services, 9501 U S Hwy 441, Leesburg FL 34788. If mailing payment, please be sure to include the student LSSC XID and full name on the check. Ensure your payment is mailed in time to meet the established fee payment deadlines.

Cardholders must be notified of the convenience fee at the time of payment and be given the opportunity to opt out of the sale. In no case may TouchNet PayPath charge the fee without disclosure to the cardholder prior to finalizing payment

Can I make a credit card payment over the phone?

No. Credit card payments for tuition, fees, and other charges cannot be made over the phone or via mail. This is a security measure to ensure confidentiality of your payment information.

Can I make a credit card payment in person?

Credit card payments can be made through LOIS from any location where you can access the Internet. This includes computers in the Leesburg Campus Student Services Building, where you can get assistance with how to pay online, and additional computers in the Library, on any campus. Credit card payments are no longer accepted at any Cashier Office.

If I make a credit card payment in error, will my convenience fee be refunded?

No. The convenience fee is nonrefundable, even if the payment to which it relates is cancelled, refunded, credited, or charged back.

If I use a debit card, will I be charged a convenience fee?

Yes. If you use your debit card to pay your account charges, you will be charged the 2.75% convenience fee.

Will the convenience fee that I am charged show up on my student account bill?

No. The convenience fee is assessed by the third party company, TouchNet PayPath. The convenience fee will appear on your credit card statement, but not on your student account. On your credit card statement, you will see two transactions: one for the student account payment, and one for the convenience fee.
